JJ’s Fine Dining at Vancouver Community College (VCC)

March 12, 2011

Had the honor of supporting an event that my friend’s son was involved with in January.  Each of us paid a small price to have dinner at JJ’s Fine Dining – a test kitchen/restaurant for students in the Culinary program at VCC.  The money for that evening went towards Culinary Youth Team Canada for their trip.  With the money they raised, the students went to Dublin, Ireland to compete in an international culinary competition and won gold in the Hot Plate category and silver in the Cold Plate category.  Congrats!

So our support was well worth it!  Not only because they won but also because the food was impressive!  It was a great evening of creative food experiences.  The menu comprised of a variety of appetizer tasters, an entrée and a dessert plate.  These dishes were the ones that the student chefs planned for their international culinary competition.  Sorry for not being descriptive enough.  I lost all my notes in my phone so I’m basically going off of my memory.

Sorry you won’t be able to try these dishes but don’t be disappointed.  JJ’s Fine Dining at VCC in downtown actually serves lunch & dinner.  I plan to go back for their regular meals and I’ll be updating this post but I’ve heard that they are actually very good.  They do serve lunch from 11:30 to 12pm and their prices are as follows: Appetizers $4, Entrees $8-$10, Desserts $3.  Their dinner reservations are between 5:30 – 6:15pm and it’s a set menu for $23.  This includes appetizer, entrée & dessert.  There are generally 4 menu choices.  Their menus change often.  Make sure you make reso’s because they book fast and they only have a limited dining time.

There’s nothing better than dining with reasonable prices and supporting a school at the same time.  The restaurant is literally in the school building so be sure to walk into the school to get to JJ’s.  And be surprised when you dine there because you’ll be eating a fine meal.
